When Creatives Collide

This is what happens when fearless, creative people come together.
My friend Chantel and I were discussing her plans for her future & what, as a college student, she has been up to. She is an extremely talented creative visionary whose goals stretch far beyond the limitations that most of us set up for ourselves. She shared with me her vision on how she would connect our world creatively with one another. She believes artists should be working together, building each other up, feeding upon each other's ideas and pushing their limits with each other. (wouldn't that be great??) Not only does she possess these strong beliefs, but she also has a vision on how to make those beliefs a reality. When Chantel is ready to launch her project, I will share with all of you. Until then, this was the result of our conversation.
She started out with two of her friends that wanted to become more comfortable in front of the camera, to embrace their look, and experience a full blown photo shoot. I have a camera, am always up for a challenge, so let's do it!
It was a very sunny Saturday afternoon, we have a minimal budget, and only two hours to get this done. First of all, I never shoot outside at noon. But today is different; there are no rules and anything goes. Chantel and her friends started out the day at the Goodwill store in our neighborhood. They found clothes, gowns, and props. They picked up some fresh flowers, and we were ready to go. The girls did their own makeup. I left ahead of everyone else and scouted some locations. Before I knew it we were in a local "junkyard" exploring the unique shapes and structures someone else left behind. Here are a few of the photos that resulted in our no boundaries day!

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of photographing Bridget Warner's boxing & personal training class. She works through the Hammond Boxing Club in Hammond Indiana. Here are a few shots from our shoot. A big thank you to Jules, Marisa, Emily, & Debbie! You girls are bad ass babes!

As I walked up the driveway when I went to meet with Gabby, I saw this great lime green VW Bug sitting pretty. After we planned her wardrobe for the shoot, I inquired about the car in the driveway. When I found out it was Gabby's, I asked if we could include it in her shoot. After all, the dress and necklace was a perfect match! Graciously, her dad & brother offered to run it through the car wash while we started our shoot and then delivered it to us all clean & shiny. It was the perfect accessory for a senior shoot! Gaby has so many different and great looks, she rocked every one of them!

Halloween is the best holiday for creative people. Szacharias Artistry & MaryAnn Newell Photography got together for our first ever themed photo shoot. We drafted her sister Samantha, my daughter Natalie, and my sidekick Angela for a spook filled afternoon. Shoshana planned out the characters & their make-up, and we all collaborated on outfits & location. After my car was packed and everyone was ready, we headed out to an old cemetery in Hammond, Indiana. At first it was really weird, but after awhile when the creative juices started flowing, I actually think the spirits around us were guiding our creativity. Maybe we were amongst former artists????  Hope you enjoy our video! :)

Senior photo shoots are always filled with adventure. I love taking people to the most obscure locations. Sometimes I see a confused look on their face as I know they are wondering, what are we doing here? When they see the photos they smile with amazement and usually comment on how cool it looks in camera. On this beautiful August afternoon, I photographed Gabie. Her makeup was done by Shoshana of Szacharias Artistry and she looked just as flawless in person as in her photos. If you haven't heard of Shoshana, look her up on Instagram (szacharias_artistry) to see all of her beautiful work.

Here are just a few shots from our fantastic shoot together!  Don't forget to follow me on Instagram @newellfoto & Facebook-MaryAnn Newell Photography!
